For the past three years, under the banner of Cultivated Days, I published twice monthly essays about cooking, eating, and living in accordance to the rotation of the seasons in the countryside of Japan. When I had amassed 72 seasonal stories corresponding to each of the micro-seasons in Japan’s ancient agricultural almanac, I knew that the series had come to its natural conclusion.
Now it’s time to write the next chapter and bring the words to life for those who want a taste. The MIRUKASHI salon is the realization of a dream I’ve had for a long time to host intimate gatherings of extraordinary guests (that’s you!) to explore the flavors of the season in the context of one of the world’s greatest culinary traditions. Slow down, engage your senses, and settle into the agrarian rhythms of rural Japan in this multi-day, immersive retreat. We’ll dive deep into the beauty of Japan’s landscape and local culinary and craft traditions. We’ll visit markets and ateliers, forage, cook, and share the flavors of the season.
I can’t wait to welcome you to Mirukashi. In honor of launching the MIRUKASHI salon culinary arts sessions, I’ve built this brand new beautiful website to house all of the information. Know that if you ever have questions—I’m only an email away.
