NEW
RICE
OCTOBER 26—30, 2026
Each grain is pristine, fragrant, alive. Both daily comfort and sacred ritual, we’ll honor this most humble yet divine food by searing Spanish mackerel over flames of blazing rice-straw — a feast of smoke, fire, and spirit.
From the hearth to the altar, rice nourishes body and soul. We’ll knead its warmth into onigiri rice balls, ferment its depth into nukazuke pickles, and taste its transformation into sake at a local brewery. With rice straw, we’ll fashion sacred amulets — humble offerings to aapease the gods.
Each meal honors Japan’s microseasons — fleeting flavors gathered, celebrated, and savored while they last. More than ingredients, they are moments in time: expressed on the plate, felt on the palate, and cherished in memory.
From private meals that celebrate Japan’s fleeting micro-seasons to hands-on encounters with master craftspeople, you’ll experience the richness of Mirukashi in its most personal form. This is not simply a trip, but an immersion — a chance to taste, create, and dwell fully in beauty, together.
ARRIVAL
We’ll gather at the Salon for a welcome dinner, beginning with a seasonally infused Mirukashi original cocktail. From there, fresh flavors flow and new friendships take root — the adventure begins.
masterclass
We’ll gather for a hands-on masterclass by a local chef with a particular passion for musubi — Japan’s beloved rice balls. Learn to cook rice to perfection over fire and shape this soul food with the love it elicits.
ARTISAN Atelier
Step into the pottery atelier for a rare and exclusive glimpse. Watch as she brings clay to life with her signature throwing techniques. As vessels take shape beneath her hands, she reflects on form, function, and the poetry of everyday objects.
Kitchen Alchemy
As we strip peels, tips, and stems to reveal hidden beauty, nothing is wasted. Every scrap becomes pickle, every gesture a lesson in preservation, patience, and the quiet poetry of Japanese cuisine.
Masterclass
The sacred art of shimekazari — talismans braided from rice straw. Twisting and weaving, we’ll shape auspicious forms that honor the harvest gods — a sacred keepsake to take home.
sake brewery
At a pioneering sake brewery, where reverence meets reinvention, we’ll taste the future of Japan’s ancient craft. Sparkling sake brewed in the méthode champenoise, cask-aged shōchū echoing whisky — each pour reveals a new possibility.
A Family Recipe
Back in the Mirukashi kitchen, we’ll learn to make kashiwameshi, an heriloom family recipe. We’ll shape musubi to pack alongside seasonal sides — a celebratory lunch ready to enjoy in the crisp autumn air.
WHERE FLAVOR ORIGINATES
A picnic in the countryside, where all flavor originates. After our picnic, we’ll linger — unhurried — for a quiet ceremony of matcha and sweets, a moment of stillness and savoring beneath the open sky.
carry it home
Wake up to one last seaside sunrise. Today you leave with more than memories. Because the real souvenir isn’t something you pack — it’s the quiet shift within you that lingers, long after you’ve left.
Salon sessions run Monday through Friday. Plan to arrive in Karatsu between 3–5pm on the Monday your session begins. We’ll open our time together with a welcome dinner that evening.
Guests arrange their own travel to and from Karatsu. Fly into Fukuoka Airport or take the Shinkansen bullet train to Hakata Station. I’ll be happy to offer personal advice on the best route to Fukuoka for you.
Karatsu is an 80-minute train ride from Fukuoka. Upon booking, you’ll receive a detailed arrival guide with instructions for reaching Karatsu and checking into your seaside hotel.
