VERNAL
AWAKENING
MARCH 9—13, 2026
Shoots push through soil. Seaweed clings to rock. Renewal is everywhere. Hillsides for horsetail, streams for watercress, shores for seaweed — we gather wild flavors in their fleeting season.
In a hands-on masterclass, silvergrass, dried by winter winds, is transformed into field brooms. Simple. Elegant. Nature’s fibers woven into simple tools infused with grace and intention — reminders that beauty belongs in daily life.
Each meal honors Japan’s microseasons — fleeting flavors gathered, celebrated, and savored while they last. More than ingredients, they are moments in time: expressed on the plate, felt on the palate, and cherished in memory.
From private meals that celebrate Japan’s fleeting micro-seasons to hands-on encounters with master craftspeople, you’ll experience the richness of Mirukashi in its most personal form. This is not simply a trip, but an immersion — a chance to taste, create, and dwell fully in beauty, together.
ARRIVAL
We’ll gather at the Salon for a welcome dinner, beginning with a seasonally infused Mirukashi original cocktail. From there, fresh flavors flow and new friendships take root — the adventure begins.
FORAGE & COOK
We’ll begin with gathering tsukushi — an ephemeral flavor of early spring. Back in the Mirukashi kitchen, we’ll explore a few Japanese culinary foundations and craft a lunch that captures the season’s essence — vivid, tender, and alive on the plate.
ARTISAN Atelier
Step into the pottery atelier for a rare and exclusive glimpse. Watch as she brings clay to life with her signature throwing techniques. As vessels take shape beneath her hands, she reflects on form, function, and the poetry of everyday objects.
Kitchen Alchemy
As we strip peels, tips, and stems to reveal hidden beauty, nothing is wasted. Every scrap becomes pickle, every gesture a lesson in preservation, patience, and the quiet poetry of Japanese cuisine.
MASTERCLASS
Overwintered, dried, and strong, in our hands, a weed becomes a handcrafted tool for daily use — a reminder that Japanese beauty resides not only in cuisine, but in the quiet elegance of everyday objects.
MASTERCLASS
In an intimate hands-on masterclass, natural materials artisan Yuki-san will guide you through the art of broom-making. Weave silvergrass from the fields into a tool of beauty and an object of intention living.
A perfect Picnic
In the Mirukashi kitchen, you’ll learn to craft elegant temarizushi — vinegared rice orbs, with hirame — a delicate white fish harvested at winter’s end. Each one a bite-sized poem to the season.
WHERE FLAVOR ORIGINATES
We'll head out for picnic in the countryside, and soak in the landscape where all flavor originates. After our picnic, we’ll linger — unhurried — for a quiet ceremony of matcha and sweets, a moment of stillness and savoring beneath the open sky.
carry it home
Wake up to one last seaside sunrise. Today you leave with more than memories. Because the real souvenir isn’t something you pack — it’s the quiet shift within you that lingers, long after you’ve left.
Salon sessions run Monday through Friday. Plan to arrive in Karatsu between 3–5pm on the Monday your session begins. We’ll open our time together with a welcome dinner that evening.
Guests arrange their own travel to and from Karatsu. Fly into Fukuoka Airport or take the Shinkansen bullet train to Hakata Station. I’ll be happy to offer personal advice on the best route to Fukuoka for you.
Karatsu is an 80-minute train ride from Fukuoka. Upon booking, you’ll receive a detailed arrival guide with instructions for reaching Karatsu and checking into your seaside hotel.
